Types of Academic Essays

An essay is a literary composition that presents the author’s argument. However the definition of an essay has been changed to include a newspaper article, novel, a book or even a short story. Essays have historically been classified as academic or formal depending on their intended use. For example, essays written for university classes usually be more sophisticated and intelligence. However, the content of pulp magazines are more playful and fun. The main challenge in essay writing is defining a specific theme, then writing an essay that is easily understood and readable to a broad audience.

One of the most important aspects of an essay is its structure. The structure of an essay is the base of every paragraph. A well-structured essay will have four main sections: introduction to body, conclusion and conclusion. The introduction is often the most important section of the essay because it gives the reader the necessary information needed to get started reading. The body of an essay is where you present the topic or thesis of the essay. The writer is able to take any of the points made throughout the paper and transform them into fully fledged arguments.

The argumentative subject matter must be established in the body of the essay. In this section, a writer can develop both an argument and a narrative particularly if they’re using personal experiences, such as in a case study or a research report, as in a research essay. The argumentative essay, also known as a thesis statement, is the most well-known type of argumentative essays. This is a written essay that combines all the different points of view or opinion that are available to the writer and develops them into a single logical viewpoint. Based on the topic the thesis statement could vary greatly from one author to the next.

The introduction is where the writer starts their essay. It is where the reader is introduced with the ideas that are covered in the body of the essay. There are a variety of ways to begin an essay. The traditional way to introduce an essay is to briefly describe the topic. Modern ways to introduce the topic include an exchange of ideas between the writer and the reader prior to the beginning of the essay.

One of the most well-known ways of starting an essay is to begin with the discussion of the thesis statement or central argument. The thesis statement is usually constructed within the context of the entire essay itself. If the essay is based on personal experiences, the introduction might describe how the essay was written and what the writer’s perspective is. It might also explain the assumptions that were made and how they relate to the writer’s personal experience. In a research paper for instance, the thesis might describe an investigation conducted by the writer, and might discuss the factors that influenced the data and results of that study.

A discussion of the thesis statement is another method to start an essay. This can be done in the body of the essay itself such as in the case of an introduction, or it may be done with the reader’s mind in the case of the narrative essay. A narrative essay is, at its heart an entire story or set of stories. The protagonist is the primary subject of the story and the events that occur within the plot establish the character’s point of view throughout the essay. Narrative essays allow the writer to fully explore the main theme of the essay.

The third type, called the expository essay, concentrates on the content of the descriptive essay. The aim of an expository essay is to provide new and pertinent information on the subject of the essay. If the essay is about Shakespeare or the play, the argument could highlight that Shakespeare wrote to Elizabeth his wife while she was living in exile in the West Indies. In this way the writer draws the reader into a complete sketch of the character, and into the character of the writer that are not evident in his works.

Essays are written to persuade readers to convince them with your arguments and then entertain them with your writing. The aim of academic essays is to make the reader read your work and then draw a conclusion about what you have written. It is important to keep these three factors in mind while writing your essay. You will find that your essay will not only be more engaging and informative, but also more valuable to the reader.
